Engineering plastics urgently need to break through the bottleneck of industrialization

as a high-tech and new material in chemical industry, engineering plastics have been widely used in recent years. Replacing steel with plastics and wood with plastics has become an international popular trend. During the Tenth Five Year Plan period, it is estimated that the demand for five general engineering plastics (polycarbonate, polyformaldehyde, polyamide, thermoplastic polyester, modified polyphenylene oxide) and ABS in China will increase from 260000 tons and 1.14 million tons in 1998 to 590000 tons and 1.6 million tons in 2005

however, compared with the attractive prospect of the whole industry, the development of China's engineering plastics industry is still not as desirable as people in order to overcome these challenges. According to the survey, the key to the development of engineering plastics in China is the urgent need to break through the bottleneck of industrialization

the variety structure of engineering plastics in China is unreasonable. They are basically general engineering plastics, and the high value-added special engineering plastic resin is almost blank. Among the products of general engineering plastics, most enterprises produce modified resins of engineering plastics, and few enterprises are engaged in the production of basic resins. The main production mode of domestic engineering plastics is to use modified granulation technology to engineer and alloy general plastics, while the industrial synthesis production of engineering plastic resin has stalled. This is incompatible with the booming domestic market demand. From the perspective of business scale, most of China's engineering plastics are kiloton production devices or industrial test devices at present, while the annual production capacity of foreign countries (such as PC resin, POM resin, etc.) is at least 50000 tons. Domestic engineering plastics are difficult to achieve economies of scale and cannot meet the needs of the domestic market, let alone compete with foreign large enterprises. At present, the operating rate of domestic engineering plastics production plants is very low, and engineering plastics cannot compete with imported products in terms of product performance or price. Enterprises urgently need to break through the bottleneck of industrialization. According to customs statistics, in 2000, China's net import of five major engineering plastic raw materials resin reached 365000 tons, and the import of ABS resin reached 1442000 tons. China has become the world's largest importer of engineering plastics for three consecutive years

then, how can China's engineering plastics industry break through the bottleneck of industrialization? For this reason, I interviewed China Engineering Plastics Industry Association

it is understood that the strong market demand in China has led many foreign engineering plastic manufacturers to stop one after another and take mainland China as their key sales market. As early as the mid-1990s, multinational companies have successively invested and built factories in China. GE company of the United States, the world's largest manufacturer of engineering plastics, built a modified granulation plant in Guangdong in 1994 to produce PC (polycarbonate) and its alloys; DuPont also built PA (polyamide) and POM (polyoxymethylene) modified granulation plants in 1994 and 1997; French Rhone Planck company and Korean LG Chemical have jointly built PA modification and ABS devices in China. The 100000 ton/year PC project jointly constructed by Bayer and Shanghai Chlor Alkali Chemical Co., Ltd. has been approved by the state, and the first phase of the project is planned to be put into operation in 2004. In addition, both Baoli plastic and teiren Huacheng of Japan are interested in investing in China to build POM and PC devices. Facing this situation, China proposed in the "Tenth Five Year Plan" for the development of engineering plastics industry that the development of engineering plastics industry should adopt different strategies according to the level of industrialization

first, for PA (polyamide) and PBT (polybutylene terephthalate) that have basically realized industrialization, it is necessary to further study and develop workpieces. It is required to drill holes during bolt or riveting assembly, increase varieties and brands, improve process technology and equipment level, and realize economic scale production; At the same time, market-oriented, vigorously develop and promote the application of various modified and alloyed new varieties to expand market share and economic benefits

second, accelerate the pace of industrialization. First of all, for the engineering plastics PC and POM that have not yet been industrialized, we should strive for joint ventures and cooperation, introduce foreign advanced technology, speed up the industrialization of these two engineering plastics, and reverse the passive situation of long-term dependence on large imports. The scale of the imported equipment is not less than 30000 tons/year ~ 50000 tons/year, ensuring that our products will still have strong competitiveness in the market after China's entry into WTO. At the same time, we should step up the research and development of process technology and rely on our own technology to realize industrialization. For MPPO (modified polyphenylene oxide), long-chain PA and special engineering plastics, we should rely on our own strength to develop process routes that meet China's national conditions and realize industrialization

third, improve the quality and grade of resin modification and processing application. Continue to strengthen the research on modern modification, processing and application technologies such as copolymerization and blending technology, additive compounding technology, modification and alloying technology, chemical engineering and design amplification technology, analysis and detection technology, so as to improve the quality and application performance of engineering plastics products, increase varieties, and constantly meet the needs of the market. At the same time, attention should be paid to the development of new, efficient, safe and multifunctional additives; Develop special equipment and molds to improve the quality of engineering plastic products

according to the parameters of the steel strand experimental machine of the Secretary of the China Engineering Plastics Industry Association: Zheng long, the development trend of China's engineering plastics industry in the future is to change the structure of existing polymers and monomers through special catalysts, and make new varieties of materials through alloying, blending, modification and other technologies, so as to make general plastics engineering, high performance and low cost; Environmental issues are an important part of the sustainable development strategy. The development of products must be based on energy conservation, material saving and environmental protection. In addition, the recycling of engineering plastics will also become a hot spot of development; The application of nano materials and in-situ compounding of liquid crystal materials will bring unexpected results to the development of engineering plastics industry

the specific contents of China are as follows: China's accession to the WTO is just around the corner. For the development of China's engineering plastics industry, there are undoubtedly challenges and opportunities. Therefore, in order to change the current contradiction between production and demand in China's engineering plastics industry, enterprises and industry authorities should first change their ideas, get rid of the dependence on the state, and hope to include the engineering plastics industry in the "infant industry" and enjoy special industry policies and tariff protection. China's petroleum and petrochemical enterprises should also, based on the experience of developing engineering plastics abroad, take advantage of their advantages in raw materials, technology and capital, actively develop deep-processing, high-tech and high value-added products, and develop the production of synthetic resin through their own technological development or introduction of technology, so as to become the main force of China's engineering plastics industry together with professional production enterprises
